Parent engagement and involvement was rarely an issue during my time working at the Strauss ECE. However, even with the numerous events throughout the years, families always asked for more opportunities to volunteer at the preschool in any way possible. That is how the Strauss Storytellers came to fruition. After randomly watching an episode of “Reading Rainbow” on YouTube, I wondered why not create a similar program where parents and other family members could read to all of our toddlers and preschoolers. As opposed to just volunteering in their children’s classroom, they could read to a large group of eager and excited young children. Once I developed a short description explaining the program, I emailed it to our parents and was inundated with requests to read over the next few months. I thought it would be exciting to film and capture the audio for every volunteer reader as means for other families to watch and listen to these wonderful stories with their own children at home.
On this page, you will find several videos, artwork, and photos of the 75+ children who were lucky enough to be a part of this program that is still being offered every Friday. In the first video, you are privy to my first time reading one of my all-time favorites, “The Book with No Pictures,” which is a must read for any age!
